Here are 5 ideas for movies to watch to get ready for autumn. Well, 4 movies and a TV series. All 4 movies are currently available to rent on Amazon for $3.99 each (affiliate links below).

(1) You’ve Got Mail  – a classic… This is the one that has the famous fall quote:

“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”

(2) Fantastic Mr. Fox  – the beautiful fall color palette along with autumn scenery is very inspirational.

(3) The Trouble With Harry – This older movie is a dark comedy by Alfred Hitchcock. It was filmed in autumn in Vermont, in mostly exterior scenes. Really, really pretty, and the movie is funny. Rated PG; has a few silly double entendres that were probably hilarious in 1955. Very enjoyable vintage film.

(4) The Lake House – A cozy romantic film with some lovely exterior filming. In addition to being available to rent on Amazon, it’s also currently streaming on Netflix.

(5) Basically any fall episode from Gilmore Girls. Ok, these are TV episodes, not ‘movies’. But certainly fall comfort TV. The new reboot season called “A Year in the Life” even includes an episode called “Fall”, though that is the final episode of the series and therefore does contain spoilers. But I watched the episodes out of order and I thoroughly enjoyed the “Fall” episode. Check out episodes 4 and 5 from any of the earlier seasons for great scenes of Stars Hollow decorated with pumpkins.

All seasons are currently available to stream on Netflix.
