March 11 (tomorrow) is National Johnny Appleseed day. That is not his birthday (which is September 26), but rather it coincides with apple-planting season.

I absolutely LOVE the Disney version of the Johnny Appleseed story, originally presented in the 1948 film Melody Time, and later in Disney’s collection called American Legends.

This short truly meets all the elements here at Christmas Magic 365. It has coziness, simplicity, music, and surreal beauty.

I encourage you to take 8 minutes today or tomorrow to watch this short and meditate for a moment on John Chapman’s life and legacy.

Melody Time is currently available to stream on Disney Plus. The Johnny Appleseed short by itself is available here on YouTube from Disney Educational Productions.
