Today is the day that everyone agrees you can finally put up your Valentine decorations if you haven’t already. If you still have your Christmas tree up, today is the day you can announce that you left it up on purpose and it is now a Valentine tree.

I put up Valentine decorations a week ago and thought I’d share our simple Valentine fireplace mantel, as well as some mobiles I made from paper and foam hearts.

My fireplace mantel is decidedly outdated, if you are keeping up with the at least 10-year-old trend of painting everything white from floor to ceiling and all the furniture in between. I recently heard a rumor that the all-white trend is finally on its way out. That remains to be seen. But I hesitate to paint bricks, so my fireplace remains old-fashioned, for now. The pink glitter cone trees are new to us this year. I couldn’t resist them because of their obvious resemblance to Christmas trees!

My old house also has these funny little windows in one corner. I took these photos at night, so you can see how terribly dark it is outside. I strung the mobiles with sewing thread and paper and foam hearts that I picked up at the grocery store. I needed something colorful and cheerful to distract from the darkness. I’m really happy with how they turned out. They took a few hours to complete, but I did it with the TV on, so it was fun.

Inside the brass light-up heart is a little snowman wearing a red and green scarf. My youngest daughter snuck him into the display. She has the CM365 spirit for sure.
