Today is November 1 and I’m happy to start a new month. I’m also having fun with the fact that TikTok’ers have announced that November 1 is now the kickoff to the Christmas season. I couldn’t agree more!

Now is the time to start buying your non-perishable holiday food favorites and baking items, a few at a time, when you go grocery shopping. It helps to spread out the cost, and have everything handy when you need it later.

This week we’re going to start off by looking ahead to December for a minute. Then working backward, planning a little bit of Thanksgiving dinner. We’ll wrap up the week with some cooking and easy projects.

For your grocery list, if you like eggnog, start looking this week to see if your store carries it yet. I will share a recipe for eggnog rice pudding on Friday. I have seen this done with long grain white rice, arborio rice, and instant white rice. I personally made it with the arborio rice because that felt more traditional to me, but you can do it with whatever rice you have on hand. You’ll also want to have some milk and a little bit of heavy cream if you can.

On Saturday we are making our own holiday scented foaming hand soap. Gather up all the empty foaming hand soap containers that you have around the house. Foaming hand soap is literally just watered down hand soap, so you’ll need an unscented soap refill or unscented castile soap. I know castile soap is on the expensive side, but a bottle will last you a long time.

Have a great week!

Finish your Christmas card photo or letter

If you are sending a photo with Christmas cards, or writing a Christmas letter, finish it up now. If you don't think you can finish it up or get it scheduled in the next few days, give yourself permission to let it go. (Image credit: LiliGraphie) You might also like...

Put blankets in your cars

Make sure your cars have cozy blankets in the trunk. You never know when the car will break down and you will be on the side of the road in 20-degree weather waiting for the tow truck. I do wish I didn't have personal experience with this! I have also seen it...
