See if you can entice your partner or at least one of your children to be your pen pal.

Start a light-hearted written conversation by leaving a note pad or a single page somewhere it will be easily found by the recipient, such as under his pillow or with his favorite breakfast cereal.

Write something like, “I thought it would be fun to be secret pen pals. What is your favorite color? Mine is turquoise. Write back and leave this note where you found it.”

Once you and your pen pal have established a routine, you may find that this is a really magical form of communication.
