I’m really feeling these words…we need a little Christmas, now! And I’m happy to see that I’m not alone. I’ve heard of people in California and in Washington who are putting up Christmas lights outdoors to make neighborhoods look cheerful. I’ve seen people on social media getting out their faux Christmas trees and putting them up right now. My house is not visible to my neighbors, so I don’t decorate the outside of my house, but I do hang lights on a fence at the end of the street that everyone can see. I am going to see if I can find enough lights to decorate it today. My state is enforcing ‘shelter in place’ tomorrow.

Another option is to really go all out decorating for Easter. Yesterday, my daughter and I went out on a walk and we noticed that one of my neighbors had gone all out decorating the front yard. And the house is in front of a bus stop, so it’s really a beautiful and cheerful gift for a lot of people to see. There were so many plastic Easter eggs on ribbons hanging from the small trees in the yard. The trees are still bare, so the Easter eggs were very visible and so pretty. Baskets, bunnies, and more ribbons decorated the porch, and a spring-themed flag was posted. It looked simple and inexpensive but the effect was very striking and certainly brings a smile to everyone who sees it.

If you also are stuck in one place for a while, then decorate as if for a holiday party!

In other news, my favorite celebrity @santaJclaus has started doing a livestream every day at 4pm Eastern time. I think it is only Monday-Friday, though. He just started on Friday and I tried tuning in yesterday (Saturday) but it didn’t appear he was on. For the first livestream he was on for about an hour and he shared a glass blown ornament and then talked about what country it was from, and described how it was made. Then he shared a matroshka doll that was painted in a Christmas theme, and he opened it up and showed all the different dolls inside. Then he shared some young reindeer antlers that had been shed, and he described how antlers are shed. (They grow like teeth, in case you didn’t know.) Finally, he read a picture book. He does the livestream simultaneously on TikTok and on Instagram. You can get his account info here. His manner of speech is very calming and happy, and he’s very comfortable on camera. He is really the best Santa I have ever seen.

Stay safe and find reasons to celebrate every day!

100th anniversary of the 19th amendment

Today in the United States, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which made it illegal to disenfranchise voters based on gender. In other words, giving women the right to vote. Why not mark this event with a special 2020 Christmas tree ornament?...
